Your Online Profile: Step Two

Now that’s you’ve done the initial work of  gathering the information you need for your online profile, you need to figure out which sites you are going to join. The advice I give my clients is that usually two is best, but don’t join more than three. More than three will be too overwhelming and signing up on only one site won’t give you the variety of matches you will need to find great people to date.

Your next homework assignment is to do some research on the online dating sites available. Go to the sites to check them out  or google reviews about each one and then pick two that you feel fit your needs best. Some of the most popular ones are:

match.com

eharmony.com

blacksingles.com (for African-American members)

JDate.com (for Jewish members)

plentyoffish.com

Although these are some of the most popular, this list certainly is not extensive. A colleague of mine met her husband on a site for African-American singles who are Christian (two things that were absolutely essential in her search) called blackchristianpeoplemeet.com.

If you already know that you want to meet people only of a certain race, culture or religion, google your criteria and chances are there is a dating site out there for you. Keep in mind though that often the more specialized sites have fewer members. If you join one of these, make sure to also join a site that has a larger variety of people as well.

Your goal here is to put yourself out there so that you can meet as many people as possible. So find two sites that you feel will help you do just that.
