The 2-word phrase of power

Posted on March 14, 2012

There is a phrase that successful women live by. They know that this phrase is at the foundation of their happiness and at the core of creating their dreams. This phrase is:

It’s only two words, but it’s full of power. It’s full of power because it’s full of accountability; it’s full of the truth that reminds you that, no matter what happens, no matter what curveballs life throws at you, no matter how powerless you may feel, you always have control over something. You always have control over how you deal with things. You always have the power to choose your thoughts and your actions.

I love Viktor Frankl. If you’ve never read Man’s Search for Meaning, put it on your list of books to read this month. It’s that good.

There are so many things Frankl says that resonate with me, but here are some of my favorite quotes from him:

~A human being is a deciding being.

~Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

~Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

“I choose.” Try it on today.

Next time you find yourself complaining about something or some one, say to yourself, “I am now choosing to complain.” “I am choosing to remain unhappy.” “I am choosing to not take proactive action.”

I’m not saying to be someone you’re not; I’m not saying pretend to be happy when you don’t feel that way. I’m just saying own up to your choices.

Because the way you feel is a choice. The thoughts you attach to is a choice. And if you’re not happy with what the decisions you’ve made, if you’re not happy with your choices, remember that you can always choose again.
