Dreams and Goals and SCA’s

I’m still decorating my new office. This thing is huge. I’ve had my husband at work every Sunday hanging up pictures and lanterns and curtains for me and it still looks somewhat bare.

So I thought I’d give G. and the neighbors a little break from all of the hammering and drilling and put up some inspirational quotes. I was thinking about those vinyl ones that you just have to pull off of the plastic sheet and stick to the wall. Those are easy enough. I can handle that.

So I started googling different kind of quotes, trying to figure out which ones encompass my coaching philosophy. Then I found a great one. It said:

A goal is a dream with a deadline.

And I suddenly realized that here again was yet another thing that successful change agents do.

Successful women who know how to create change (SCA’s) aren’t above getting their head in the clouds sometimes. I mean, what good is life if you stop dreaming? All of us need to have dreams and aspirations.

But the difference between an SCA and others is that the successful woman knows that if a dream is to be realized, it can’t just stay a dream. Successful women know that if they want to make a dream come true, they need to figure out how to break that amorphous concept into a series of goals. Successful women know that they then need to break these goals into smaller, manageable steps that will lead them to their destination.

A goal is a dream with a deadline. And a dream without goals is just a dream that won’t come true.
