Humility has its place

Being humble when in a job interview, asking for a raise, trying to get funding for your project, or establishing yourself in a new career is not admirable. Women often feel that if they talk about their accomplishments, they’ll be bragging. The next time you’re afraid that you may be boasting, take into consideration the context of the conversation.

Are you trying to further your agenda (ie: your project, your position, your place in the hierarchy, your income)? If so, then speaking of your accomplishments is one of several strategic moves you’re going to have to make in order to be successful.

Are you trying to get someone to be impressed by you (ie: you want to be liked, admired, approved of)? If so, then ask yourself why you feel the need to prove something to this other person.
