A Real Valentine’s Day

Posted on February 11, 2013

In the past, I’ve posted tips, strategies and coaching tools on how to survive Valentine’s Day if you’re single. If that’s what you need right now, you can find some of them here and here.

But if you’re looking for something different, then this post is for you.

This year, why not make this holiday about showing people how much you love them? Here are some ideas on how to make this week a week you’ll actually enjoy:

1. Send valentines to your friends. Sending them via snail mail makes them even more special. Remember when you were a kid and you collected all of the valentines from your classmates and friends at school? Let’s face it, we hardly get any snail mail anymore and the USPS could really use your support. If you need a creative outlet, you could even make these by hand. The people you love will be overjoyed to receive them.

2. Do 28 random acts of kindness, one for each day of the month. A woman blogged about how she did this for her birthday and now a lot of people are doing this for their birthdays. Why wait until your birthday? Why not make this month the month you do something nice for some strangers? Blogging about it may even inspire others.

3. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with some other single friends. There’s no reason why a bunch of you should be sitting home alone when you could make reservations at a great restaurant and have fun with some of your besties. Will there be lovey-dovey couples there as well? Of course. But you’re way too confident to let that deter you from enjoying your evening.

If you shift your perspective about Valentine’s Day and widen its purpose as a day to show the people you love how much you love them, it becomes so much more fun.
